What is an RF collector?
An RF collector is an intermediate device placed at floor, block or shaft level inside a building. It gathers data from meters within range over short-range radio and forwards it to the central modem or directly to the panel.
Its purpose is not to extend range for its own sake but to get past an obstacle. Reinforced concrete walls, metal doors and service shafts attenuate radio signals badly. Because the collector sits close to the meter, the meters behind those obstacles come back into the system.
This method is usually paired with meters that broadcast wM-Bus telegrams; the collector is the listening side. In mixed installations some blocks are covered by collectors while others are read directly by a central receiver.

Coverage is surveyed
Meter positions and building structure are reviewed to identify which points cannot reach the central receiver.
Collectors are positioned
A collector is placed near the meters that fall outside coverage. One collector typically takes on a floor or a section of a block.
Meters bind to the collector
The collector listens to and records broadcasts within range; the panel shows which meter arrived through which collector.
Data goes to the centre
The collector forwards accumulated data to the central modem, from where it lands in the panel and enters the archive.
Coverage stays monitored
Meter count per collector and last data time are tracked. When a collector goes quiet, every meter in that area is flagged at once.

Choosing
When is RF collector the right choice?
Good fit
- Meters in basements, car parks and lift shafts
- Service shafts with metal covers
- Multi-block structures with thick reinforced concrete walls

In one project some blocks can use collectors while others run wired M-Bus or direct wireless reading. Everything writes to the same archive.

Where coverage cannot be secured permanently, those meters move to a field reading task so the period never waits.

Can wireless reading work without a collector?
Yes, in buildings where the signal reaches the central receiver no collector is needed. Collectors come in exactly where concrete or shafts cut the signal.
How many meters does one collector handle?
It depends on device capacity and building structure. In practice one collector usually takes a floor or a section of a block; the required count is worked out during the survey.
What happens if a collector fails?
Every meter in that area becomes unreadable at once — a pattern clearly distinguishable from a single faulty meter in the panel. Until the collector is replaced, those meters can be moved to a field task.
